numb3rs

Maybe I should elaborate on my one day assignments.

The one I was referring to in my previous post and which (not so coincidentally) only hires temporary staff on Mondays has to do with cheques. The company's main aim is to key in data from scanned cheques and,as you would expect, hires us specifically to help clear cheques accumulated over the weekend.

For such a normal sounding job, I balked at the abnormal hours the first time I worked there(which was a week ago). Then, I reached at 1030am and left only at 1130pm. So what do we do in that half a day? Key in amounts and account numbers for cheques of course. Until about 9pm; From that time on, we start checking the cheques themselves.

Because of the gruelling 10 hours or so of keying in numbers Cedric and I are something of a number pad expert. The thing about keying in the numbers is: you tend to key in slowly at first. Then as you get familiar with the keyboard, you start speeding up,until you get to a stage where you mindlessly stare at the computer screen, hit the keys and smile as you tap on the enter key. Just so you know the Enter and '0' keys give the most sastisfying sounds.

Every keyboard is different. Even if they look the same, the feel of the keys differ.

The most problematic thing about this job is you tend to think about numbers quite a bit. So much so that last night, I dreamt a string of numbers attacking me. And the ones that attacked the most violently are '0' and it's friend, the enter key.

This is not good.
