Lost and found

I got a bad fright yesterday when I was at the "forum", trying to develop some photos.

Since the photos were stored in my mp3 player, I asked the personnel there if it was possible to read from there. When she answered in the positive, I rummaged my bag for the mp3 player and lo and behold, it was not there.

For those not in the know, my 2 year old creative Zen Neeon is something of a permanent fixture in my bag. When I am bored in the bus, it is there. When I am waiting for my friend at the MRT station it is there, happily awaiting my company. When I need a storage device to hold my powerpoint slides or photos, it willing does overtime. So you can imagine my anxiousness when I discovered it was missing.

I felt as if a friend had been lost.

But the thing about losing it in school is that there are only that many places it can be.Since I was in the computer centre earlier happily charging my mp3 player I surmised that in my rush to go to my tutorial I had left it there.

But that opened yet another possibility: Has it been stolen?

I flew down to the computer centre, tapped my matri card , opened the door and found to my dismay, only the earphone were left.

There was no mistaking it, I had bought a pair of white sony earphones after the earphones that came with the player gave up. And the exact pair was there, dangling, its end disconnected.

But there was something weird about the entire affair.

I realised that I was in the seat beside it before I left. I inched right and caught the sight of my mp3 player still conected the USB port of the computer.Heaving a sigh of relieve, I smiled sheepishly at the person using the computer and explained that I had forgotten to keep it earlier.

"Luckily you came back," she said.

Luck is a very subjective matter. For if I hadn't wanted to develop the photos, I wouldn't have realised that it was gone. If my grandfather hadn't wanted me to develop the photos, I wouldn't have done it.
