Christmas!

Tuition

I thought I started my day rather interesting on this supposedly festive day. I gave tuition to this kid living in Tampines. Woke up at 8 am- too early considering the fact that i slept at near 2 that morning. That aside , I took a bus to Tampines interchange where I bravely followed my instinct and in a leap of faith took a green plate bus 293 hoping to see a St. Hilda's Primary School on the way there.( That's about the only thing I remember about getting to my destination ya.) Fortunately, the school appeared where i thought it should but found myself in yet another dilemma. I was too early.( What if the student was still wrapping my gift? Or setting up the christmas tree to welcome me?) Graciously, as any celebrity would have done, I decided against arriving early to take a look see around the humble neighbourhood, or so I thought

The thing was it wasn't a humble neighbourhood per se. It was actually a maze of shop houses, Pasar Malam-like shops all in a sapce of about half a football field. And so i embarked on an ambitious journey to get a taste of what living here might feel like.My conclusion: this is one absolutely cool place to be living in.With the 7-11 store in about two right turns , a wide variety
of food to choose from turkish to probably alaskian, wet markets, super markets, grocery stores, untility stores, book stores, hair salons, computer shops, furniture shops, shopping centre, gift shops, confectionaries and many many more, this place holds more shops than two average sized shopping centres can. A price-hunter would be spoiled for choice. My auntie would have loved it here( more about that later) . After walking for some time( all the time checking my watch so as to make my grand appearance), my hand-phone cum watch finally read 9.45 am. That was my cue.

I found the block.( miraculously I actually remembered where the block was located) Any one would have panicked by now, bearing in mind that I still was working on my gut feeling to my destination. And so I arrived on the ninth floor. Now it was either one floor up or one floor down and so I did a recee.

And so these are the things I found out by observing their front doors:

Tenth Storey corner Door

  • Newspapers not taken - occupants have not woken up yet
  • Some Taoism ornaments on their door
Eigth Storey corner Door
  • Newspapers taken
  • some slippers on the front door
All these evidence, coupled with the knowledge that the kid i and giving tuition to is christian should by right have pointed to the eight storey house but i decided to wait for the final comfirmation and five minutes later i had it. My student opened the door.( I observed this from my last experience I came too) and so this is how to find a destination without actually knowing where it is.

National Treasure

This episode in the morning felt quite satisfied with myself. It felt like a treasure hunt, speaking of which I watched national treasure in the evening. It was a show really worth watching compared to say.. Alexandra-which was not great at all.( It actually felt like my history teacher directing the movie though so maybe I should give it credit for that.) The more I watched it the more I felt a Singaporean Version should be made from it.

Main plot:

The male lead( probably Tay Ping Hwee) is a patriotic Singaporean and believes that there is a treasure conspriracy in the upper levels and so spends his life looking for a certain "Ah huay" which turns out to the name of a trishaw in Chinatown. He get s pipe with a removable boat-shaped tip with an insciption on it. The inscription leads him to the agreement of independence penned by the founding fathers of Singapore.

The treasure map however is written in invisible ink on it and he somehow steals it from the Singapore Museum and at the same time meets the female lead( Jeanette Aw) The map tells them to be at the sultan palace at a certain time and the as soon as the time comes, somehow notices that its shadow is pointing towards Sir Stanford Raffles. They go there and find that a specially-marked brick with a pair of special glasses behind it. They use it and the final clue leads them to a church down a tomb and finally to the treasure stove. Finding it empty they despair but at the last minute they notice a groove shaped like boat. They use the pipe found at the beginning to open the secret chamber and -lo and behold- they find millions of taufiq and sly posters, Hello Kitty toys and of course, Bonds to policies that expire in about 200 years time. Jubilant, they celebrate their victory and live happily ever after.

Actually that was already the more watered-down version. I was planning on using the night safari and the Jurong Bird Park as "clue places" but dropped them out at the last minute as I thought them too dishy for the general audience.

Christmas past

Erina sent me a post card last last night. Thought it looked really great so decided to post it online. This is it:

Neat ya. One really has loads of patience to do sometime like that.

Really tired right now. So I will just end off with some things that I learnt this christmas.

1. I got good direction and common sense
2. I dont really like turkish food
3. I cannot write a script
