For A Very Special Cousin...

When I was brought into this world more than two decades ago, Shivonne was one of those first familial persons I knew.

We played princesses by tying towels around our waists, and I would always cry and complain whenever she had no problem tying a knot with the towel, but I, the horizontally-challenged one, had to resort to using clothes pegs.

Yupz...and as princesses of the family, we had obligations to charm and entertain others with our melodious voices.

Mind you. We had personal bodyguards.

When Dion, Shivonne’s brother, came along, we took things in stride and made the new prince our fellow jie mei.

****************

Having lived under the same roof for many years, I can’t recall when Shivonne and Dion moved. I guess we then entered the rat race in school, and we unknowingly drifted apart. They seldom come for our weekly family reunions anymore, and on rare occasions that Shivonne and I meet, after our teens, we have nothing to say to each other.

I wonder what happened.

For a period of time, I was the nerd; she was a design and arts student.
Today, I am an undergrad; she is a pretty nurse.

To say that I missed what we shared is an understatement. I love my family, but without her presence in my life, a void remains. Yet, I understand, what’s lost cannot always be regained.

To my special cousin and fellow-princess Shivonne, you will always remain dear in my heart, wherever you are, and whatever you do. May your walk with the Lord be continually strengthened. God bless.

PS/ Dan is expected to be back from this Taiwan trip tonight, while I'm off to Shanghai early tomorrow morning...Back to you, Dan! Stay tuned! =)

...grace...
