First ,the batch just after us got their NS shortened to two years. Then, the recruit's pay increased. The final blow came this afternoon, just as we were receving our combat rations for the exercise we were having later in the week. At first, they looked and felt about the same. That suited me just fine until I spotted just a tinny tiny bit of blue packaging in the assortment packs.

Oreos! When in the world did Oreos find their way into combat rations? If I were in BMT now, I would be scoffing at what soldiers found in their assortment packs last time- Khong Guan butter and chocolate biscuits, which I thought was heaven last time. These are still found in the packets though in visibly less portions.
As if the rations were not "heaty" enough with the Oreos already, they included cookies. Yes. Cookies. I would prefer mine to be Famous Amos though. 200g please. Maybe I can send a letter somewhere...
Dry foodstuffs aside, Singapore Food Industries, or rather those in charge of them decided to change the drinks too. Instead of Milo packets we now have..

Instead of the 3-in-1 coffee mix we now have a can of nescafe coffee.
Another new addition is a Ribena packet, full of blackcurrent goodness of course.
While all this is all making the combat ration look like a picnic meal out on the beach, how can we forget our side dishes?
We have

Ayam brand Tuna, perfect for making tuna biscuit sandwiches or on it's own.
The above are the more common items. The actual menus include chesse sandwiches(Ritz) and some other foodstuffs I find myself deliberately forgetting just to ease the pain.
What pain ? The pain that I know some people eat this their entire 2 years not knowing what a week of Khong Guan biscuits feel like.
But really, I love these packets. Can I have more please? Maybe I could mix and match and then give them away as Christmas presents.
