Festival of lights

Xinhui and I went to Orchard today do a little christmas shopping. We both ended up with books. One of my books , you can see from my all consuming sidebar, Borrowed time. It's a real life autobiography of AIDs patients. Xinhui got Totto-chan.

After a fantastic dinner at Pepper lunch(pun intended) and more book browsing at Borders, we had a ball of a time taking pictures. I also learnt a thing or two about taking night shots.

1) Never use flash when your subjects are too close to you.

It makes your subjects look washed out and your surroundings dark. Instead ,bump up the exposure levels to compensate for less light.

without flash(exposure levels up)

Sadly though, the second picture was not taken by me. It's taken by Xinhui and is currently part of her portfolio. I happen to think that it's very good. I tried taking the picture with her inside but my hands are too shaky, which brings me to the second lesson I learnt.

2) Ready, Steady...
Still hands make for great night shots.

So that's about all that I've learnt. Anyway, Xinhui and I are planning a treetops trail photo excursion. Anyone keen to join us?
