A streak of bad luck

There are only so many things you can do right when you are down on your luck.

Last week as I was using my computer there was a weird smell in the air in my room - Much like what paper fresh from photocopier machines smell like.I didn't pay much notice to it as I happily surfed away on my computer. The smell was actually caused by the slow burning of the cable from my portable hard disk to my computer. By the time I noticed it, the wire was exposed and my new 80GB hard disk was burnt, literally.

And just as I thought the week could not get worse, I lost my USB thumb drive. Retracing my steps I must have left it at the library during one of those days I was hardworking enough to get up bright early in the morning to complete my lab report. Such the fate of hardworking, sleep-deprived but unlucky students.

And just when you thought storage devices are the only sway objects, there came the malfunction of my tuner. Khaiyuen borrowed it to listen to a tuning note. He switched it on. He switched it off. I placed it back into my bag and that's about all it takes for the tuner to refuse to be alit once more. Despite crooning songs like Into the West from the Lord of the Rings trilogy to Bao Bei Dui Bu Qi by the Grasshoppers, it adamantly refused to be revived.

Lady luck truly dealt me the final blow when in the middle of my test today, the program I was working on crashed. Having already finished half but nothing to show for it, there was only one way about it. Clenching my fists, I started a new project. Suffice to say, I did not finish everything the test required. It didn't matter that I got up at 7 to reach school at 8am to practice before lectures at 10am. It didn't matter I was at the exam venue 1 hr before the test. It didn't matter. When your luck is lacking, it matters not what you prepare for.

Maybe I should go see a fortune teller sometime. I have a feeling my bed should face the Television instead of the door.
