The Thousand Dollar Drink

I have been having these weird dreams at night these past few days. In fact some of them are so weird I fear writing about them. Just last night I dreamt that someone was rubbing her feet on my face. Apparently I was strapped to some torture device because the owner was none other than Patricia Mok. I woke up drenched in cold sweat.

It was with a headache and a sleep-deprived body that I half dragged myself to TPJC. TPJC Alumni practices came to be on Friday nights after the governemnt implemented their five day work-week policy. I was in the Band but due to other commitments(namely the SAF), this was only my first time since gods knows when I stepped into the bandroom.

The main band got themselves a gold a few days earlier. That day I was bombarded by 2 messages in 1 minute- a first ever if you don't count the time I was scolding my friend. Two years earlier the entire band cried their eyes out when we got a Silver medal. The amplifier which broadcasted the live telecast of the results suddenly became the television which gave us the news that Constantine was voted out; There was a profound hatred for it. Now if you step into the band room, you will find it long gone.

It did not take anyone to tell me that I sounded terrible. Throughout the hour long practice I must have caused wrinkle lines on countless members for frowning too much and shortened the life span of the conductor by at least 5 years.

As a make-up, I went along with some friends to have dinner; Only to realise that I didn't have money.Happily I tracked myself an ATM machine and punched in my card and number.

I have a philophy about using ATM machines - use it as quickily as you can. I have been traumatised by countless aunties trying to withdraw money for the fifth time when the screen read "This machine cannot dispense the amount requested".

So I did my thing as I did it many times before. Then came the option for the amount to withdraw. The numbers got all fuzzy in the 100 and 1000 dollar region and before I knew it, 20 fifty dollar notes found themselves in my hands. I blinked .Fearing a robbery any moment I stashed the wad of cash in my wallet and slot it into my Levi's jeans's back pocket which had a hole in it.

It felt good to have $1000 in cold hard cash in your pocket.

I think it showed when I ordered Aloe Vera peach tea because the uncle claded in singlets and shorts smiled at me.

I now had 998.80.
