Not a typical Hari Raya celebration

While my muslims friends were celebrationg the end of Ramadhan yesterday, my other friends and I were at the airport for a national cause - to protect it. My heart still bleeds when I think about having missed an episode of lost.



Changi Airport is one of the finest airports in the world and there is little wonder why. With it's squeaky clean image , customer-oriented services and more recently the addition of budget airlines, more tourists are making their way here.

But it is in the wee hours of the more peaceful mornings that Changi Airport becomes home to the more atypical.

During my schools days, a group of us would find ourselves at the viewing mall torning the night away, talking about everything and nothing in particular, admiring the airplanes and the nightsky. We would make such a racket it was a wonder no one came to shush us. Ah...those were the days.

On this particular night however, there was no such thing as the viewing mall in T2 was closed for renovation.

What there was though , was a multitude of little kids rushing to us in between shouts of "army!army!" and frantically waving their favourite ice-cream. My friend took it one step further when a little kid with his mother came up to him and shouted in his tiny voice, "Army tank!"



We almost tripped ourselves over laughing at him.

Then there was the odd couple once in a while. My friend and I bumped into an awkward scene in a dark corner of the airport where they were erm... ... busy. As we stood with our guns, it was hard to say who were more embarrassed.

Duty at the airport was not all fun and games. There were moments of great anguish as well.

According to my friends at Terminal 1, they all saw Mayday arriving in Singapore for the Singapore hits awards. About a month a ago, when Mayday was last in Singapore I got only four of their five signatures at their showcase.



And I was at Terminal 2.

Nooooooooooooooooo... ...

update: Mayday was named "Best group band" and "Best artiste composer" in the Singapore Hits Awards. Congratulations.
