吃在口里, 甜在心里
Every Monday and Friday whenever I come back to Simei to teach tuition, I would go to the same coffee shop to have my dinner. It being the one nearest the MRT station, I would tuck in to my favourite meal, a plate of Nasi Lemak and shuffle off all in a matter of minutes.Partly because I am running late most of the time, I barely have enough time to finish my food but if there is a chance one day, I will say to the auntie , " 你的 Nasi Lemak 很好吃!".
Because it's true. Even when compared with other famous Nasi Lemak stalls, I find this one in Simei the best. Why? The steamed rice is always fragrant and of just the right texture, neither too hard nor too soft. And it doesn't have to be pretentiously green to be great tasting. Also it tastes even better now that they've tweaked the recipe somewhat.
The Ikan Bilis is always crunchy and let's face it, it's a little difficult to get Ikan Bilis wrong ,but that's a plus point as well.
If you ask me what my favourite type of egg is to go with Nasi Lemak, I would say it's the sunshine egg and that's precisely what they serve. When the yolk breaks and soaks the rice with all it's golden goodness, you know you have upp-ed your level in the hierarchy of food nirvana just looking at it.
But what really really takes the cake, the main star of the show is the Chicken Wings. For me, I really love their wings when it's piping hot, just-out-of-the-wok fresh and even when I'm late, I'm always ready to polish off another one of those wings. I mean just thinking about them makes me salivate, you say le! I assure you my friends, these wings packs a punch.
Compared to the wings, the Chilli might seem less important but on my score card, these two go head to head, because whats a plate of great tasting Nasi Lemak without a dollop of great tasting Chilli?
And that's why whenever the auntie asks me "辣椒?" I would start to smile and nod my head because I know a treat is coming.
